The entire Garden (buildings and grounds) is temporarily closed from Wednesday, March 25 through 9 am on Friday, April 24 in accordance with Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers' Safer at Home order. All Garden events, classes and programs throughout the rest of March and April have been canceled. See updates below.

Grand Garden: Artistry in Stone

By Susan Garot, Executive Director

The amphitheater and concession buildings are wrapped in plastic as construction continues in all weather conditions.

The masons have been busy putting the stone on the structures, and their work is truly artistic. Watching them place the stones on the structures is like watching a puzzle master complete a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle that has a big blue sky with few clouds (And wouldn’t that be nice right about now? A big blue sky that is!)

The buildings will receive windows shortly and work will commence on the interiors of the concessions building (catering kitchen, restrooms, storage and classroom spaces). The grand entry arbor is receiving its overhead arbors this week and beginning to take shape.

The contractors are shooting for completion of all structures by April 1 so the final infrastructure (final grading, pathways, lighting, sprinkler system, lawn) can be installed by June 1. At that time the Garden staff will take over installation of all plantings, trees and shrubs in time for the grand opening events the week of Labor Day, 2017.

We are thrilled for all who have been a part of this since we first began planning in 2014, and we invite you to join us in helping with our final 4% to get us to our fundraising goal of $5.7 million! Please visit our campaign webpage or contact me for more information at
