Your Garden Is For Families

Linda Gustke, Education Manager

When you think of the Garden, we hope it brings about many wonderful thoughts. Not only is it a place for peace and tranquility, beautiful flowers and pristine landscaping, but it is also a place where kids can run and play, and discover the wonders all around them. The latter might not always be the first thought that comes to mind when you think of the Garden.

For one area mom, her idea of the Garden was very formal and proper. While she enjoys the outdoors, she tended to opt for natural landscapes. This January, she ventured into the Garden with her son for one of our spectacular snowshoe hikes and discovered the amazing place that we all know and love.

“I thought I knew what the Green Bay Botanical Garden had to offer. I thought I knew what a Botanical Garden was. I thought gardens weren’t my thing…Now that I know what a local gem the gardens are, I’m super disappointed we missed out on making this neat experience part of [our son’s] young childhood”. Then, join us for one of our upcoming family programs to truly discover and engage with your children (or grandchildren) in the Garden! We have one last winter hike on February 25th, then we get underway with our spring offerings:

  • Winter Family Hike: Saturday, February 25, 10-11 am.
  • Garden Sprouts: One Friday a month, bring the 3-5 year olds in your life to the Garden for a great program that includes hands-on activities, stories, crafts, snacks and more.
    • Upcoming Programs, Fridays, 10-11:30 am:
      • March 10: Circle of Seasons
      • April 7: Animal Babies
      • May 12: Crazy Colors
  • Family Nature Nights: One Monday a month, join our Education Team for a family hike through the Garden! Our first hike is on May 22, 5:30-6:30 pm, with the theme of frogs and toads. Hikes will continue into the fall.

It is also time to start thinking about summer…and summer camp for the kids! We are excited to announce our summer camp offerings, which include multiple themed day camps and a couple weeklong camps. Visit our Camp GBBG page to find the best summer camp fit for your kids (or grandkids)!
