Hilarie Rath, Arnold Grummer Certified Hand Papermaker

Get ready to learn a lot and be prepared to have fun making handmade paper!

In this full-day retreat, we’ll learn to make paper with a variety of deckles, laminate different colors, use botanical inclusions and embedments as well as non-botanical embedments. In the afternoon, we’ll learn to paint with pulp.

After that, it’s play time. You’ll get a chance to practice whatever you’d like to do. You’ll have the opportunity to try out different kinds of stencils, molds, and deckles. We’ll have a variety of inclusions and materials ready to embed. Then, we’ll clean up, share, and learn about papermaking opportunities.

You’ll leave this day with valuable skills that you can use in many walks of life. Papermaking is loads of fun for all ages. It’s a great way to recycle scraps around the house. It feels great to use your imagination and make beautiful things with your own hands.

Please bring a lunch with you. A tour of the Garden will be provided mid-day for those interested.
